HOW CAN I HELP?

1. COME TO THE AUCTION

If you haven't been before, it's a fun, low-key night. It's a great way to spend time with the ATS community; get to know fellow parents, teachers, and staff; and bid on great items and experiences! It's adults only, and food and drinks are included with your ticket! So schedule that babysitter, bring all your ATS friends, and buy your tickets now!

2. HOST A PARTY (ATS community members can bid to attend!)

One of the best ways to build community is to host a Parent Party! (Wait - what's a Parent Party?) Click here for more information and consider hosting one yourself or joining with another ATS family or two to host one!) The deadline for adding your Parent Party to the auction catalog is February 20 and can be done by emailing the auction chairs - Emily McCarty and Mabel Gabig (ats.auction.committee@gmail.com). See flyer for additional details.

3. DONATE AN ITEM OR EXPERIENCE

We're also looking for other items and experiences to auction. Believe it or not, you may already have access to an item or experience that others would love to bid on! Please reach out to our auction chairs - Emily McCarty and Mabel Gabig (ats.auction.committee@gmail.com) to coordinate donation of an item or experience.

4. VOLUNTEER

Volunteering is a great way to meet fellow ATS parents and support the school at the same time. Please email our auction chairs - Emily McCarty or Mabel Gabig (ats.auction.committee@gmail.com) to coordinate donation of an item or experience.

FAQ's

Q: When and where is the auction?

A: Saturday, March 7 from 7 - 10PM at Hyde Social (3100 Clarendon Blvd, Arlington, VA 22201).

Q: What do I wear?

A: This is a casual event. The theme is "A 1920's Soiree," so feel free to have a little fun with flapper dresses, head pieces, dapper suits, or just come as you are! You can lean into the theme as much or as little as you want.

Q: Can you explain more about the "1920's Soiree" theme?

A: Yes! While the theme harkens back to 1920's-style clothing. (Again, there is no pressure to dress up! We encourage you to lean into the theme if that's your thing, but feel free to come dressed as casually - or dressed up! - as you like!) Here are some examples of 1920's-style clothing, should you go that route.

Q: How should I get there?

A: Hyde Social is less than a block away from the Clarendon Metro station. There are also several parking garages nearby and limited on-street parking.

Q: Will there be food and drinks?

A: Yes! We will have heavy appetizers. There will also be a limited open bar with an assortment of beer, wine, and non-alcoholic beverages.

Q: Can I bring friends or family who aren't part of the ATS community?

A: Of course! Anyone is welcome to purchase a ticket and come hang out for a night of fun and bid on some great items for a great cause.

Q: How does the auction work?

A: You can bid both online and in-person. Some items (like Principal for a Day, front row seats for 5th Grade Promotion, reserved parking spot in the ATS parking lot for next school year, lunch with Principal Podbelski or Assistant Principal Shoenbrun) are ONLY available for IN-PERSON bidding. However, most items are available online.

Q: Do I need to download the Auctria app?

A: No, but it is highly recommended, as it provides the easiest, most efficient way to bid. Downloading the app will allow you to set your top bid amount for an item, meaning your bid will automatically increase as soon as someone bids against you, but only up to the amount you list as your maximum bid. This greatly increases your chances of winning (as the bidding gets fast and furious in the final minutes)!

Sign in to the app using the email you provided during your ticket registration, and search for our event using the website address www.atsauction.com. You can also bid online using your phone or computer.

Q: Can I bid on anything before the night of the auction?

A:Yes! Many items - like donating $ to help a teacher attend for free or purchasing teacher coffees - will be available online well before the night of the auction (and some of those staff and teacher coffees go FAST, so check back often if there’s someone you especially want to treat)! Many items will start populating on the website a week or two before the event, so be sure to check the site frequently!

Q: How do I bid online? A: 90% of the bidding takes place online, which means you can bid straight from your phone or computer. If you are planning to attend the auction in person (and we hope you are!), you’ll definitely want to download the Auctria app to bid as quickly and efficiently as possible, though you can also download the website on your phone.

You will be notified on the site (or in the app) if you are outbid, so you will have every opportunity to enjoy the event while the auction is ongoing. To make things easier, set a top bid amount, and the app will increase your bid automatically every time you are outbid up to the maximum amount you set.

Q: How do I bid in person?

A: In-person bidding will take place at Hyde Social ONLY and occurs via a live bidding process towards the end of the evening. Once a live bid item or experience is announced, you bid simply by raising your hand and naming your bid amount. Whether you are bidding or just watching, the in-person bid items are BIG ticket items, so it is always an exciting highlight of the evening - you don’t want to miss it!

Q: What if I can't make it to the event? Can I still bid?

A: Absolutely! Most items are available for bidding online, via the website or app Online bidding closes promptly at 9PM the night of the event.

Q: Do I need to spend a lot of money to attend the auction?

A: Of course not! While there are many options to bid on items you’d purchase anyway (like a gift card to your favorite restaurant or hair salon) to help support the school, the auction at its heart is a great way to come together as a community and just have fun. Some items - like donating to the music department or buying a coffee for a teacher - are available for as little as $25 or even $10. And you can still have fun even if you don’t bid and just join us for a fun evening out!

Q: Can I just donate money if I don't win anything? A: Absolutely! There are options on the auction site to donate online. Thank you!
Q: Can I bring the kids?

A: No, this is an adults-only event, so line up your babysitter now! To help with costs, consider going in with another family or two for a sitter.

Q: How do I pay for the auction items?

Once you purchase your tickets online, you will be asked to create an account and populate it with your credit card information. This information will then be saved in Auctria for online bidding. If you are unable to attend the auction in person, you can still bid on items through the ATS Auction website, which will prompt you to create an account and enter in your credit card information in the process.

For live auction items (which can only be purchased in person the night of the event), you will close out any items you have won in person at the end of the night.

Q: How do I receive the item(s) I won? Do I need to be present at the auction to get them?

A: All electronic items (gift certificates, etc) will be emailed the week following the event. Physical items present at the auction can be picked up at the end of the evening. If you cannot attend the auction in person (or need to leave early), arrangements will be made for any physical items to be delivered to the winner.
